The Marketplace stands out in the field of winners because it was the only project in a small borough, had a budget of $1.2 million and was done with only public funds. The other winners were from various cities across Pennsylvania, had tens and hundreds of million dollar budgets and were a combination of public and private funding.

The comments from the award jury explain why the Marketplace was included with these major projects: “The Marketplace at Telford is a great example of how historic preservation can lead to community creation. The project demonstrates that small towns can make big impacts through the preservation of existing structures.  The transformation of a former rail building into a community gathering space, complete with outdoor dining and access to locally grown food is a wonderful combination of sustainable practices. Accompanying the restorations is the construction of an additional building that is sensitive to the context.  The Marketplace at Telford creates a wonderful asset for the community.”

Isn't it cool when someone else notices that we doing something right? Souderton and Telford received a nice kudo in this article in the Doylestown Intelligencer.

All the hard work everyone - elected officials in the boroughs, the municipal staf, the Main Street volunteers- has been doing for the past 10 years is actually cutting edge. We are ahead of the trend toward moving from the auto-dominated suburbs back into the walkable comunities.
