rudyandjeff2009During the hottest part of the summer of 2008, intern Rudy Flores and a group of volunteers walked throughout the downtown of Souderton to tally the parking usage. The counted the vehicles once an hour from the parking lot on Railroad Avenue to the lots between the railroad tracks and Front Street.

Rudy spent hours before those three rounds of inventorying with developing the spreadsheets, creating maps of available public parking and preparing for the data they would collect. After the data was gathered, Rudy applied the theories he learned in the planning program at Temple University to anaylize the data.

After he did the analyis, Rudy applied the principles of parking management to the report that is available below. Allebach Advertising took his final report and put a final polish on the presentation. Attached below is the study for your benefit.

The final conclusion was that downtown Souderton has plenty of parking for the current demand. With simple parking management tools, Souderton can accommodate business growth.

Rudy joined STMS Board member and Design Committee Chair, Jeff Gross at the National Main Street Conference in March 2009. His work for STMS helped him with his application to graduate school and resulted in a teaching assistant position with a stipend and tuition paid. Not bad for an unpaid intern...
